Kicking Off Moretonville JFC’s Social Media…
To the dismay of my father – an ardent Manchester United fan, I didn’t know the first thing about football. To me, it was ’only a game’. (Sorry Dad!) The phrases ‘free kick’, ‘penalty shoot out’ and ‘off side rule’ might as well be a foreign language, and the so-called ‘beautiful game’ never interested me in the slightest. Until now…
As proud supporters of the Buckingham community, we have struck up a partnership with local sport team Moretonville Junior Football Club (MJFC). Based in Buckingham, MJFC was established in 1969 and runs football teams for children aged between six and 16 years old. Impressively, Moretonville is one of the largest football clubs in the North Bucks area, with more than 28 teams playing in the Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire leagues.
With strong links to the two senior Buckingham clubs, a highly-organised and efficient committee, and a gigantic community made up of players, parents and coaches, there seemed to be only one thing missing for MJFC – an online social presence that is just as mighty as the football club itself. Cue our social content marketing team, led by myself…
- To boost club awareness
- To attract local prospects, suppliers and sponsors
- To initiate affiliations with local people and businesses
- To provide successful, fun and informative social media channels for the Moretonville community
I am now currently sorting out the social media skins for the newly set up Facebook and Twitter channels, drafting content and soaking up as much footie knowledge as I can from MJFC secretary Anita Atkinson.
The thought of kicking-off (excuse the pun…) the social media activity for a club and subject about which I had very limited knowledge daunted me at first. However – the more our social media plan for MJFC unfolds, the more excited I am to see this project launch.
Now ask me about the off-side rule!
