Martin Peachey
A designer living the account manager's dream.
My story begins way back in the old days when the world was still viewed in black and white and the Mini really was a Mini. I began my working life as an apprentice electrical draughtsman, but computers cut this once artful career choice short. So it was off to the big city and more study, this time in applied graphics and architectural form.
With this newly acquired knowledge safely stored, a designer's position came calling at a large, swanky London agency. Here I was lucky enough to work with some interesting, and quite well-known characters, such as Kylie, Mikael Gorbachev and Esther Rantzen! But alas, all good things must come to an end and a move in to print management followed. Luckily for me, and all those I got to socialise with, this new working arena allowed me to pick up a 'party-wowing' vocabulary of print jargon and procedures, as well as providing a greater involvement in relationship building and project management.
This newly found thrill of client relationships and managing projects eventually won me over. My passion for design, although still very much present, had to take a back seat to account management on my continuing career bus. Speeding down this new route, I was fortunate enough to be presented with opportunities to look after some major blue chip clients across Europe, the journey had became even more exciting. But, after a thoroughly enjoyable time in this role, a new challenge once again beckoned and up stepped bda. Now, back agency side, I have been able to combine two of my greatest professional interests - design and people. Who could ask for more!
Outside of Work
My main love (apart from my wife of course) is golf. But I have apologised for this numerous times, and see no need to do it again! An active committee member of my local club, I pursue the ongoing battle of taming my handicap and the British weather. I also enjoy skiing, the occasional game of squash and the obligatory social beer.
Other Interests
For some reason, and still one I haven't fathomed, I like to compile completely irrelevant facts in totally random subjects and then bore the socks off those I meet - another apology is in order. I have a love of technology, gizmos and gaming - especially online - and beer - I may have already mentioned that one!
